Mission Statement

Central Michigan University
Founded in 1892, Central Michigan University is a nationally ranked institution that fosters the transformative power of advanced learning while embracing a sense of community among our students, faculty, staff and more than 235,000 alumni. We are an inclusive community of scholars ranked in the highest two Carnegie research classifications. CMU supports the education of all learners from traditional students on our main campus to adult learners at our satellite locations and online students across the nation and around the world.

CMU has a long history of serving the educational needs of U.S. military families and veterans. In 1972, we made the decision to reach out to military men and women who needed educational opportunities that would be portable and affordable. We continue that tradition to this day with our online programs and satellite centers located at installations across the nation.

The support we offer to all our students has led to CMU’s recognition as a military-friendly school by Military Times and Military Advanced Education and Transition. CMU is also a Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency Gold School.

No matter where you earn your CMU degree, you interact with expert faculty and experience a variety of opportunities in which to immerse yourself and learn. You are surrounded with support and make lifelong connections that will follow you throughout your career.
