Mission Statement

The College of Mount Saint Vincent is proud to be a Yellow Ribbon School and welcomes active military and veterans who wish to further their education. The Mount offers both undergraduate degrees in over 40 different subject areas and graduate degrees in Business, Education, Nursing, and International Development and Service.

The Mount is described as a very personal place in a very big city. Just 12 miles from midtown Manhattan, our location gives each student access to the educational, cultural and career resources of New York City.

Small classes and a rigorous curriculum define a Mount education. Students receive the personal connection and guidance they need in an intimate setting, which is a hallmark of a top higher education experience.

Dr. Joseph Skelly is a professor of history with extensive military service who assists veterans transitioning from military service to the academic world.

Dr. Skelly is a recipient of the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award, which recognizes company grade officers from the active Army, National Guard, and Army Reserve. Recipients embody leadership qualities demonstrated by General MacArthur and exhibit exceptional ability to ensure their soldiers are trained and ready to meet the highest standards necessary for the United States’ global missions.

The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program), a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, allows institutions of higher education in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution. Mount Saint Vincent has made that commitment.

Yellow Ribbon Program Benefits
The Post-9/11 GI Bill pays up to the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition. The students’ tuition and fees may exceed that amount if they are attending a private institution, graduate school, or attending in an out-of-state status. If students are enrolled at a Yellow Ribbon participating institution and the tuition and fees exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition, additional funds may be available for their education program without an additional charge to their entitlement.

Institutions that voluntarily enter into a Yellow Ribbon Agreement with VA choose the amount of tuition and fees that will be contributed. VA will match that amount and issue payment directly to the institution. See the College’s annual contribution amounts.

Post-9/11 G.I. Bill
The Post-9/11 G.I. Bill provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service after September 10, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill.
