A vital part of one of the world's greatest universities and medical centers, Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health pursues an agenda of education, research, and service to address the critical and complex public health issues affecting New Yorkers, the nation, and the world.

 

A global presence built on local excellence, the School has faculty members pursuing research and service projects in more than 100 countries. Committed to meeting the health needs of underserved populations in all corners of the world, the School educates over 1,200 graduate students a year, who typically represent more than 40 nations. They benefit from an internationally recognized faculty devoted to superb teaching and access to the School's many world-renowned research centers, including the Center for Infection and Immunity, ICAP, and the Robert N. Butler Columbia Aging Center.

 

The Mailman School addresses today’s health challenges through a broad lens, creating public health programs that can serve as models and be replicated across the country and around the world in order to reach large numbers of people with life-saving interventions.

 

Located in Washington Heights in Northern Manhattan, the Mailman School has been a partner in the community for decades, working with diverse populations throughout the City’s five boroughs on HIV/AIDS education, prevention, and care; smoking cessation initiatives; school-based clinics; and programs to stem the growing asthma epidemic in our urban environment.

 

The School’s curriculum—combined with its internationally renowned research and training programs—immerses students in all facets of today’s critical health issues to develop the necessary tools to forge new paths and effect change in communities both near and far.
